Kailash Mansarovar Yatra FAQs

Food facility during Kailash Manarovar Yatra

Q. What is the food facility during Mount Kailash parikrama?

It takes two and a half days to complete the Mount Kailash parikrama. On Day 1, you will be taken by bus from Darchen to Yamdwar, which is the base for Kailash parikrama. Breakfast and a packed lunch (light) will be given at Darchen.  After a 10 km trek from Yamdwar, you will reach Dhirapuk, where you will be given soup and dinner. On Day 2, you will start early in the morning from Dirapuk after tea and biscuits for the 22 km trek to Zuthulpuk, packed lunch (light) will be provided. Upon reaching Zuthulphuk, you will be given soup and dinner. On Day 3, the last day of Mount Kailash parikrama, after having tea and biscuits, you will start an 8 km trek, after which, upon completing the trek, we will pick you up to return to Darchen by bus, where food will be provided.

On the parikrama route, you will also get small food shops from where you can buy juices, cup noodles, etc.

Q. How many meals per day do we get during Kailash Yatra?

Three meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) along with tea and soup. The hotels and tourist resthouses are informed in advance so that the meal is prepared and ready before arrival of the Kailash Yatra group.

Q. How do you provide food in the Kailash Yatra? Is it from a hotel or restaurant or cooked by your team?

During the Kailash Yatra, mixed accommodation (hotel and tourist rest houses) is provided to all the yatris. In the Nepal region, the hotels have their in-house restaurants where food is cooked and served in a buffet system. In the Tibet region, food is cooked in the permanent kitchen set up in the tourist rest houses. For a hassle-free service, a vehicle with ration and cooks reaches the next spot even before the group arrives, to cook a fresh meal, and serve a comforting meal to all pilgrims.

Q. What kind of food is served during Kailash Yatra?

The food served during Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is basic but nothing fancy. However, we ensure to provide the best food service available to the yatris travelling with us. Pure vegetarian, freshly cooked food is served to all the pilgrims throughout their yatra.

Q. Do we get North Indian/South Indian/Chinese food during Kailash Yatra?

Since the trip to Kailash is a pilgrimage yatra, the food provided to you will be basic and nothing luxurious. However, our team will provide you with freshly cooked meals including chapati, vegetables, dal, rice, khichdi and sometimes Chinese for variety.

Q. Can we organize a party/bhoj during the Kailash Yatra?

If you are travelling to Kailash Mansarovar on a special occasion like your birthday/anniversary/etc, and are willing to organize a party/bhoj, discuss it with our team in advance.

Eventually, we do not promise to fulfil the request of arranging party/bhoj in case of unavailability of resources; however, we will surely do our best.

Q. If Kailash Yatra gets delayed due to any reason then who will bear the food cost?

We provide our yatris with meals up to 2 days in case of any delay. However, in case of any further delays due to any further reasons, all expenses of food will be borne by the yatri themselves.

Q. Can one get non-veg food during the Kailash Yatra?

Since Kailash Yatra is the most sacred known Hindu pilgrimage, you will only be provided with vegetarian food on our part. However, in case you wish to have non-veg food, you can purchase it from the local market at your personal expense.

Q. Can I cook my own food during Kailash Yatra?

Since Kailash Yatra is performed in a group, all yatris will be provided with the same freshly cooked meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) along with tea/soup by our team. Also, there is limited availability of resources; therefore, cooking for yourself won’t be possible. However, if you are physically fit and wish to cook, you can help our team preparing food for the group.

Q. Are markets or local restaurants available on the Kailash Yatra route?

Yes, markets and local restaurants are available on the Kailash Yatra route. On the helicopter route, you will find restaurants and local markets in Purang from where you can indulge in shopping for the Mansarovar Lake and Mount Kailash Parikrama. Similarly, on the overland route, you will find restaurants and local markets in Dongba/Saga where you can shop for souvenirs and essential items.

Q. Can I get Jain food during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

You can get served with no onion, no garlic food during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. However, in case you have any special requirements, such as no underground vegetables, then you need to discuss with the team beforehand. Each time a meal is being prepared, we will surely try to arrange something for you.

Q. If I keep fast on a particular day, will I get fruits on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

Since Kailash Mansarovar is located at a high altitude, it is not recommended for you to keep a fast. To avoid any unforeseen circumstances, it is advisable to eat and drink well and keep your stomach full and body warm. The weather can affect your body if you have an empty stomach. However, fresh fruits are easily available; you can buy them from the local market.
