The immigration process at the Nepal-Tibet border is tedious and time-consuming. The Chinese immigration authority thoroughly checks your phone, as your phone must not contain photos of the Dalai Lama or/and any anti-China content. Do not click photos of Chinese authorities in any case. Fingerprints are required for further records, but there will not be any stamping on your passport. To avoid any hassle during your Kailash Yatra, it is essential to follow the instructions provided by the immigration officers, Tibetan guide, and the Chinese army.

For the Kailash Yatra, the customs clearance process takes place at the Nepal-Tibet border, after the immigration process. The Kailash Yatra group members must move in a proper queue and follow the instructions of the Tibetan guide. The customs clearance process for the complete group takes about 20 to 30 minutes; only the bags and luggage are scanned thoroughly in the scanner.

The immigration process takes place at the Chinese immigration centre on the Nepal-Tibet border, for instance, at Hilsa for the helicopter route, and Keyong for the overland route of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The entire Kailash Yatra group enters and exits from Tibet together.

First, the immigration takes place at the Nepal immigration camp, where the details of the pilgrims are recorded and an exit from Nepal is stamped on the passport. When the group reaches the border, an entry process for Tibet takes place at the Tibetan immigration centre. The passport, group visa, and group permit of each traveller/pilgrim in the group is checked after which the entry process is completed. Biometrics, i.e. fingerprints of all 10 fingers, are taken for record, but no stamping on the passport is done.

The time taken in the Immigration process depends on the size of the group. However, it is time-consuming, so do not hurry, be patient and cooperate with the authority at the immigration centre. It is advisable to maintain discipline and follow authoritative instructions.
