Kumbh
Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 will be held in the Prayagraj city of Uttar Pradesh. The Kumbh Mela takes place once every 12 years. This year the Maha Kumbh Mela is set to commence on 13th January and will end on 26th February 2025. It’s almost a 44-day-long spiritual event, symbolizing a unification of spirituality and tradition. In Prayagraj, the Kumbh Mela occurs at the confluence of the three holy rivers—the Ganges, the Yamuna, and the Sarasvati, also known as ‘Triveni Sangam’. During Maha Kumbh, millions of saints, monks, Naga Sadhus, and yogis visit the city to dip into the Triveni Sangam— the Ganges, the Yamuna, and Saraswati. This ritual is also known as the ‘Shahi Snan’ and holds immense spiritual significance for sadhus and yogis from around the world. The Kumbh is held in four cities—Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. As per Hindu scriptures, these cities are believed to be blessed with the drop of amrita (elixir of immortality) during the Samudra Manthan or the ‘churning of the ocean’. And so, ritualistic bathing during Kumbh Mela is believed to absolve the sins of previous births. Kumbh Mela only occurs in the cities where the drop of amrita fell. The Maha Kumbh Mela is recognized as one of the holiest and biggest spiritual events in Sanatan Dharma. The Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is set to draw millions of mystics and yogis.
