Discovering Mount Kailash: The World’s Holiest Peak

Did you know? Mount Kailash is one of the world’s unclimbed peaks. Surprisingly, nobody ever has managed to climb this mountain. It is regarded as the ‘Centre Of Universe’. The mountain is located on the Tibetan plateau at the trijunction between China, India, and Nepal. Close to the mountain lies the world’s holiest Lake—Kailash Mansarovar Lake. Another lake known as Rakshastal Lake is also located close to the Kailash Mansarovar. The king of demons—-Ravana composed the famous ‘Shiv Tandav Stotram’ at the banks of the Rakshastal Lake. This holy mountain holds great spiritual significance for all the four major religions of the world—Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Bon. The first Tirthankara of the Jains—-Rishabhnatha attained salvation here. For Buddhists, Kailash is regarded as the ‘Father Of The Universe’ and Lake Mansarovar as the ‘Mother Of The Universe’. The satellite images captured by NASA depict the Mount Kailash Shiva Face.

In addition to this, it is also known as a cosmic axis connecting heaven with Earth. According to Hindu scriptures, this mountain is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati. This four-faced holy mountain is the origin of four major rivers of Asia—Indus, Karnali, Brahmaputra, and Sutlej. Mount Kailash is known as ‘Gang Rinpoche’ in Tibetan language. It is believed that performing the circumambulation (Kailash Parvat Parikrama) ushers in peace, and good luck in the lives of the pilgrims.

This mountain has remained shrouded in mystery for centuries and people across generations have tried to decode its mystery. The appearance of Mount Kailash has captivated many onlookers and scientists. It has a pyramid-like striking appearance and when the sun beams fall on it, it appears to be golden-coloured. Nobody has climbed this holy mountain except Milarepa—the Tibetan spiritual poet.

We believe in adding insights to your journey to make it even more relatable. Let us delve into some of the amazing facts about Mount Kailash.
