All You Need To Know About Kailash Yatra’s Duration
Mount Kailash stands tall amidst an alpine landscape and rocky terrain. Hence, the journey is overwhelming and at the same time a test of patience as well. The Yatra also includes Kailash Parikrama and Lake Mansarovar Parikrama. The lake is located 90 km from Mount Kailash and it takes almost 3 hours to finish the parikrama. The parikrama is done by a Volvo bus.
The two ways to plan your Kailash Parvat Yatra are—via the Ministry Of External Affairs (Government Of India) and a private travel management firm that organizes the yatra via Nepal. It takes approximately 26 days to complete the yatra if you choose to plan with MEA.
Ministry Of External Affairs (Government Of India) organizes the Yatra via Lipulek Pass and Nathu La Pass. These two are the Kailash Mansarovar routes from India.
- Lilpulekh Pass (Uttarakhand): The yatra through the Lipulekh Pass (located in Kumaon) is a complete trek-based yatra of about 250 km. The duration of the yatra is 24 days. Only 18 groups with 60 member travellers are permitted in each group.
- Nathu La Pass (Sikkim): This is another route for the Kailash Mansarovar Trip. It is a trekking-free route and ideal for senior citizens. The route is suitable for vehicles. Only 15 groups of pilgrims with 50 members in each group are permitted. It takes almost 21 days to complete the road journey on this route.

1. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Overland Route By Bus From Kathmandu
Kailash yatra by bus from Kathmandu is a 14-day long journey. Kailash Mansarovar by road takes fewer days. It is the cheapest route. The yatra will be completed by bus and will begin in Kathmandu. We will enter Tibet via the Kyriong border.
2. Kailash Yatra Via Heli route
There are two options if you have to travel via heli:
- Kailash Yatra Via Helicopter From Lucknow: The Kailash Yatra mountain flight starts from Nepalgunj which is 185 km from Lucknow. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Lucknow is a round-trip of 14 days from Lucknow to Lucknow.
- Kailash Yatra Kailash Mansarovar Yatra By Helicopter from Kathmandu (Nepal): This is another heli yatra that starts from Kathmandu and ends at Kathmandu. The distance from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj is completed by flight. From Nepalgunj, you will join the Kailash Yatra Lucknow group for the darshan of Kailash Mansarovar.
3. Kailash Yatra Via Lhasa: Travellers will take a flight between Kathmandu and Lhasa. Lhasa is the capital of Tibet. From Lhasa, the distance is covered by road in a Volvo category bus. It is a 14-day-long journey.
