Panch Badri, a group of five temples & religious sites in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region, spans from Satopanth to Nandprayag, 24 km above Badrinath.
Most prominent among them is Badrinath, a 3,300-meter Char Dham in India, which houses the Badri Narayan idol in a meditative posture & is open to devotees from April to November.
Adi Shankaracharya established 16 small temples, believed to be the site where Lord Vishnu was worshipped before the present-day Badrinath temple.
Also known as “Future Badri”, according to legends, it will become the main place of Vishnu’s worship when access to Badrinath is lost in the future due to natural calamities.
The temple, associated with the legend of Lord Vishnu appearing as an old man, houses an ancient idol symbolizing wisdom and the deity's eternal nature.
It is linked to King Pandu, who meditated here, and features Lord Vishnu in a meditative posture, reflecting the region's spiritual roots. Pandavas handed over the kingdom to Parikshit here.
The best time to visit Panch Badri is between May and October. Stay for yatris is managed in nearby towns like Joshimath, Auli, and Karnaprayag.
